Plant a Seed: Read! Summer Reading Returns to the Chiloquin Branch Library
This summer, the Chiloquin Branch Library is once again inviting the community to discover the joy of reading through its annual Summer Reading Program. Beginning June 15, readers of all ages are encouraged to take part in this year’s theme, “Plant a Seed: Read!” — a fun and engaging program designed to inspire imagination, curiosity, and lifelong learning throughout the summer months.
The Summer Reading Program has become a favorite tradition for local families, helping children and teens continue reading while school is out and encouraging adults to join in the fun as well. Participants can earn prizes by tracking their reading throughout the summer, while families with younger children and pre-readers can count early literacy activities such as reading together, storytelling, singing, and educational playtime.
Library staff says the theme reflects the idea that reading helps plant the seeds for creativity, confidence, knowledge, and future success. Whether someone reads one book or twenty, every page helps grow important skills while opening the door to new ideas and adventures.
This year, the library is also bringing back an updated version of its popular Monopoly-style reading challenge board from last summer, giving adults another fun way to participate alongside children and teens. Organizers hope the expanded activities will encourage entire families to spend time reading together and visiting the library throughout the summer.
In addition to the reading challenge itself, the library will host weekly Wednesday activities at 2 pm in Chiloquin featuring hands-on programs, guest presenters, and family-friendly entertainment.
The summer lineup includes:
- July 1st: Hula Hooping with Ms. Button
- July 15th: Magic with Jay Frasier
- July 22nd: Finch Robotics Workshop
- July 29th: Summer Craft Workshop
- August 5th: “Bee Amazed,” a traveling exhibit from the Museum of Natural and Cultural History
- August 12th: Ventriloquist Vikki Green
- August 19th: Hands-On Critters (Reptiles)
The library hopes the program will continue to create excitement around reading while also bringing families together through fun, educational activities. Organizers encourage community members to stop by the library, sign up for the challenge, attend events, and make reading part of their summer adventure.
For many local families, the Summer Reading Program is more than just books — it’s an opportunity to explore, learn, create memories, and stay connected all summer long.
